Building upon the architecture of the 2.16 ultra, the dual configuration allows every stage of the digital playback chain to be optimized independently. Dedicated Server and Renderer Architecture
In a conventional music server, storage management, metadata processing, user interfaces, network communication and audio rendering all operate on the same hardware platform.
The 2.16 dual ultra eliminates this compromise by dividing these functions across two dedicated units.

The concept behind the 2.16 dual ultra originates from principles long established in high-end analogue audio. Just as separate preamplifiers and power amplifiers often outperform integrated designs, separating server and renderer functions allows each subsystem to operate under ideal conditions with minimal interaction. The result is greater transparency, improved dynamics and a more natural musical presentation.
Dedicated Power for Each Function
The separation of functions also enables the use of two dedicated power supply systems. Each unit benefits from its own optimized power architecture, reducing interaction between subsystems while significantly increasing available power reserves compared to a single-unit implementation. This contributes directly to lower noise, improved stability and a greater sense of ease and realism in musical reproduction.
Pink Faun OS
The 2.16 dual ultra runs Pink Faun OS, our proprietary operating system developed entirely in-house for uncompromising digital audio playback.
The dual architecture allows us to optimize the software environment of both units independently. While the Server Unit is responsible for library management, metadata processing, user interaction and network communication, the Renderer Unit is dedicated exclusively to audio playback. This separation enables a level of software optimization that is simply not possible within a conventional single-chassis design.
At the core of Pink Faun OS are our dedicated in-house developed input and output drivers specifically designed for 2.16 dual ultra setup. By controlling every stage of data transport within the system, we can minimize latency, reduce unnecessary processing and create an exceptionally stable playback environment.
Communication between the Server Unit and Renderer Unit takes place through a proprietary Pink Faun streaming protocol developed specifically for the 2.16 dual ultra. Unlike generic network protocols, every aspect of this protocol has been optimized for audio playback, including timing behavior, packet size and transmission speed. This allows both units to operate in perfect synchronization while minimizing processing overhead and preserving musical integrity.
Pink Faun OS also includes dedicated software optimization for each available output Bridge. Whether using USB, ultra USB, S/PDIF, AES-EBU, I²S or ProISL, the operating system and drivers are individually tuned to maximize the performance and musicality of each output stage. Rather than applying a universal approach, every output is treated as a unique playback path and optimized accordingly. The result is a software platform that fully complements the hardware architecture of the 2.16 dual ultra, delivering exceptional timing precision, low system activity and an immersive, natural musical presentation.
Perfect Integration
The Server Unit and Renderer Unit communicate through a dedicated direct network connection, functioning together as a single integrated playback system.
Within this architecture, the Server Unit also acts as an isolation layer between the external network and the Renderer Unit, further protecting the audio path from unwanted interference.
