Developed as the successor to the acclaimed 2.16 and 2.16x music servers, the 2.16 ultra represents the culmination of decades of experience in both digital and analogue audio design. Every aspect of the system has been engineered to maximize musical realism, timing accuracy and emotional engagement.

Backbone


The 2.16 ultra is built around a sophisticated dual-chassis architecture. A CNC-machined internal chassis provides mechanical stability, advanced resonance control and shielded compartments for critical circuitry.

A key element of this design is the honeycomb motherboard platter, developed to eliminate unwanted vibration and resonance without excessive damping. This creates an exceptionally stable platform for the hardware and contributes directly to the natural and transparent presentation of the music.

The ultra OCXO clock module is housed within its own dedicated shielded compartment, isolated from the rest of the system to ensure maximum precision.

Star-Light




Power is supplied through our proprietary Star-Light architecture, developed from more than thirty years of power supply design experience.

A fully linear, passively cooled Ultra Low Noise – Fast Transient power supply utilizes multiple independently regulated power rails, minimizing current loops and reducing electrical interference throughout the system.

Three custom transformers, fast Schottky rectification, nanocrystalline chokes and more than 800,000 μF of low-ESR capacitance create a stable, battery-like foundation for the entire platform. A dedicated 5,000,000 μF supercapacitor supply powers the ultra OCXO clock module.

At the heart of the 2.16 ultra lies our proprietary ultra OCXO clock technology.

Designed to minimize phase noise and jitter at the source, the ultra OCXO enables exceptionally precise timing and ultra-low latency playback. Combined with dedicated regulation, high-bandwidth output circuitry and supercapacitor power delivery, the clock module forms the foundation of the 2.16 ultra’s musical performance.

Hardware


The hardware in the Pink Faun 2.16 ultra is selected to ensure flawless playback of all audio formats, with ultra-low latency and zero buffering. The system features a 24-threaded CPU, with each thread strategically assigned to specific functions within the operating system and music playback software. Paired with 32GB of RAM, this setup allows to load Pink Faun Operating System, including Roon to into RAM entirely before playback begins. Unlike traditional buffering, this process enables real-time playback directly from RAM, ensuring minimal latency, uncompromised data integrity, and effortless, stress-free musical reproduction.

The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) plays a pivotal role in the musical performance of the 2.16 ultra. Acting as the communication bridge between the operating system and hardware, the BIOS has a significant impact on the system’s transparency and musicality. While factory-default BIOS settings suffice for general tasks, they do not meet the specific requirements to suit high-fidelity audio playback. Improper configurations can increase latency, introduce instability, and degrade performance.

To achieve the highest level of audio reproduction, Pink Faun fully optimized the BIOS settings through countless hours of listening and fine-tuning. This guarantees a perfectly balanced system, delivering unparalleled transparency, rich dynamics, and a lush, full-bodied midrange. The optimized BIOS also enhances the accuracy of the low-end presentation, bringing a lifelike presence to every note played on the 2.16 ultra music server.

The 2.16 ultra runs Pink Faun OS, our proprietary operating system developed specifically for high-performance audio playback.

Together with our custom-developed network and audio drivers, Pink Faun OS creates an extremely efficient playback environment with minimal system activity and exceptionally low processor load. Extensive BIOS optimization and dedicated CPU core allocation further enhance performance.
