This amplifier has been designed specially for the Aglaya speakers. Together they make a tuned system, which can be used for people who want music without problems. Just connect it and it plays optimally.
The amplifier contains a EC93 tube input stage, driving a 6W class A single ended MOS FET amplifier for mid/high and a 100W Hypex class D amplifier for bass. Crossover frequency is 250Hz 2nd/3rd order. Bass can be adjusted seperately so the level can be tuned exactly to the mid/high level.
The amplifier combines the musicality of a tube with the power of transistors. The amplifier has four transformers, one for controll, one for the tube input stage, one for the mid/high class A amplifier and one for the class D bass amplifiers. Together they are able to supply about 700VA of continuous power. This power is smoothed with a high duty cycle tuned Q power supply with a total over 120.000 uF capacitors, to ensure fast and powerfull amplification of all sections.
The amplifier uses fast recovery diodes, Low ESR power supply capacitors, and Allen Bradley resistors, paper/oil and silver mica capacitors in the signal part. All signal wires are shielded individually, to ensure the amplifiers only do what they need to do and there is no interference. Chassis is 2-4 mm steel, divided in three seperated sections, one for the transformers and rectifiers, one for the smoothing and stabilisers, and one for the signal. The amplifier has four inputs and four outputs for bass and mid/high speakers.
The amplifier also can be used for other speakers at low frequency crossover points. This can greatly improve the performance of any system containing a bass unit and a mid/high section with sensitivity above 94 dB for above 50 - 300 Hz.
