Passive crossovers in speakers are very hard to make right. Not only changes the resistance of the speaker with frequency (this is why it is called impedance), it also changes during motion of the speaker, it even can be negative! Besides this a passive crossover always means there are parts between the amplifier and the speaker, reducing even very high damping factors to virtual nothing.
A very good solution is to move the crossover in front of the power amplifiers. It is very easy to make a "prefect" crossover, damping of amplifiers to the speakers stays very high, and also amplifiers can be optimized for their specific part of the music. This results in very tight bass, great stages and very natural undistorted music. Systems will easy move up one class when made active.
The Pink Faun active Xover will be tube based, third order two way. We will use cascaded first order systems, so there will not be any second or higher order filter effects like bad phase and damping. Each crossover is adjustable, and also can be put on and off, you you have all the degrees of freedom you need. Phase of the low pass can be turned 180 degrees, for easy experimenting. All this will be done with very few, but very good, parts in the signal.
